Robin aggression towards non-robins

While not overly optimistic that anyone will respond, I want to ask someone! Robins are famous for their territorial zeal. Today I watched a robin chase off a male chaffinch. Do Robins routinely set themselves against non-Robins? Or is our Robin just easily fooled by a reddish breast??
