(Eurasian) Bullfinch Pyrrhula pyrrhula Size: 14-17cm UK Status: common resident breader | Large, plump finch with striking red-pink breast (male only - female buff-grey breast) contrasting with black head and grey back. However, often inconspicuous in behaviour and therefore not always obvious. Often seen singly or in pairs. In flight shows distinctive white rump and white wing bars. Resident all year throughout Britain, breeding in woodland (especially amoung conifers) or scrubland with some trees. | |
