Mute Swan Cygnus olor Size: 140-160cm UK Status: fairly common resident breader | Large, completely white swan with long neck. Orange bill distinguishes from Whooper and Bewick's Swan. Black knob on forehead and black legs. Often swims with characteristic 'S' shape neck posture. Juvenile grey brown plumage, with dull grey bill and no black knob. Breeds throughout Britain on lakes, rivers and in coastal areas. Resident throughout the year. | |
