(Common) Blackbird Turdus merula Size: 24-28cm UK Status: very common resident migrant breader / passage visitor and very common winter visitor | Common and ditstinctive member of thrush family. Male plumage entirely black with yellow bill and thin yellow eye-ring. Female and juvenile mottled brown, female bill less bright, juvenile bill dark. Long-ish tail often cocked while hopping on the ground or perching in a bush. Resident through most of Europe, summer visitor to far east of region. Most often found in gardens, parks, woodland etc. | |
