UK Status: very common resident breader / winter visitor

Small brown bird with black streaking along back and wings. Head is grey with a slight hint of blue, ear coverts and crown brownish. Fairly shy, seen mostly feeding on the ground near bushy cover, often fluttering it's wings. Usually only seen perching when delivering song. Resident in Britain and most of Europe, summer visitor to far north. Found in the vicinity of bushes, ie scrubland, moors, woodland, parks and gardens.
