Tiny plump bird with chestnut brown upperparts and pale buff below. Plumage shows fine dark barring, most defined at the tail, which is often cocked. Widespread across Britain and most of Europe, although it's secretive nature and small size make it less apparent. Resident, preferring woodland with scrub, or overgrown gardens etc. Often noticed due to it's surprisingly loud song and 'tick' alarm call.
