White / Pied Wagtail Motacilla alba Size: 17-19cm UK Status: common resident migrant breader / very common passage visitor | Commonest of wagtails in the UK. Walks with distinctive bobbing motion, occasionally rushing forward to stop suddenly with wagging tail. Obvious pied plumage, with black crown and bib, white face (bib smaller on female), and long tail black above, white below. Resident throughout UK (doesn't winter in far north of Scotland however), usually in cultivated land (farms, towns etc) often near water. | |
