Best distinguished from other gulls in the region by white leading edge to underwing in flight. During breeding has dark chocolate brown head (not extending to nape) which deteriorates to a small dark spot behind the eye for the rest of the year. Smaller than other commonly found gulls, with relatively small head. Very common accross Britain thoughout the year in areas such as marshes and lakes, coastal areas, and even towns.
